 For nearly
half a century, the McFarland family has worked to breed
top quality Shorthorn cattle. Beginning in South Dakota,
the Diamond M operation now runs a select herd of
Shorthorn cows in Illinois and in partnership with Franz
Farms in Minnesota. We have a long history of breeding
some of the breed’s great matrons to leading Shorthorn
sires through an ambitious embryo transfer program. We
seek to produce the highest quality Shorthorns, and
through the years, Diamond M cattle have found their way
to discriminating herds from coast to coast.
 One
of our highest goals is to produce high performance, low
birth weight bulls and females worthy of a place in the
most selective herds. On this website, you will
consistently find a selection of show and breeding
heifer prospects as well as a select offering of future
herd sires. We welcome you to inspect our cattle, both
